Over the past number of days, there has been an increased demand for suckler and dairy breeding heifers - both maiden and in-calf - here at Tradeforus. Starting with the suckler side of the house, Aberdeen Angus heifers - scanned in-calf to a 5-star Angus bull - sold to a price of €1,800/head.
A number of top-end commercial suckler maiden heifers were also sold as of late. The demand for this type of stock is high, with some very fancy prices being paid for these animals; maiden heifers sold to €1,100/head. In addition, Limousin-sired maiden heifers sold for €900/head.
However, the stand out price was paid for a 400kg Simmental maiden heifer; she made €1,700.
Looking at dairy sales, with scanning complete on herds that started breeding early in the year, surplus spring-calving heifers are starting to come on-stream, with plenty of interest for this type of stock. The same can be said for autumn-calving heifers that are due in the coming months - with these selling to €1,600/head.
