Young pedigree Simmental, Hereford and Texel breeder takes role with Tradeforus
Hailing from Co. Offaly, Ciaran Kinahan has taken the position of Business Development Administrator with Tradeforus. Prior to joining the newly-established company, he worked for Glanbia Ireland at many of its sites in the midlands.
While there, his main duties included: silage testing; soil testing; soil analysis; animal feed diets; and grain analysis.
Before that, he graduated with an honours degree in Environmental Science in Agriculture from Limerick Institute of Technology (LIT).
On the home farm, he is involved in the running of a pedigree Simmental and Hereford herd, and a pedigree Texel flock, alongside his mother and father. The father-and-son duo are very active in showing circles - showcasing their pedigree cattle at agricultural shows up and down the country.
In 2018, the Kinahan family sold a Simmental bull – Tullyfarm Jackpot – to an AI station in Ireland. In his spare time, Ciaran also preps and shows cattle for the Grianan Pedigree Hereford Herd at premier sales in Tullamore and Nenagh.
The passionate breeder has also represented the Young Irish Simmental Association (YISA) on the junior Irish team at the UK YMA International Stock Judging Competition, which was held at the Enniskillen Show, Co. Fermanagh, in 2013.
Away from the farm, Ciaran plays football for his local club and was awarded senior footballer of the year in 2017 in his final year at Ard Scoil Chiaráin Naofa.
“I am delighted to join Tradeforus at this time. During the Covid-19 pandemic, there was a real change in the way farmers had to trade cattle.
“With the Tradeforus platform and marketing technology, farmers can trust the information provided on lots for sale; this will be a great help in choosing the right animals for their systems when procuring stock directly off-farm.”
