Well-known German native joins the Tradeforus team
Heinz Eggert is well known in Irish beef farming circles. Heinz, a native of northern Germany, first came to Ireland in 1982 as an agricultural student for a 6-month work experience placement. This role brought him to a large-scale dairy farm in Co. Wexford.
After completion of agricultural college in 1985, Heinz returned to Ireland and has managed some top dairy and beef farms in the country. One such farm was the Sheplands Farm Ltd. in Sallins, Co. Kildare. This farm consisted of 75ha with Heinz tasked with building the suckler herd to over 100 continental-cross cows, bringing all progeny – in the form of young bulls and heifers - to beef under 16 and 24 months-of-age, respectively.
The farm was a participant of the Teagasc / Irish Farmers Journal Better Beef Farm Programme for an impressive eight years, while it was also used by Teagasc as monitor farm. As a result, the holding welcomed many national and international farming visitors to showcase Irish beef systems. While doing so, Heinz demonstrated the benefits of adopting new technologies - and increasing technical efficiency – that he learned through the Better Farm programme.
In addition, Heinz also sat on the Irish Grassland Association (IGA) beef committee from 2009-2015, while holding the position of chairman for two years – 2013 and 2014. The German native has a keen interest in sport – particularly rugby and soccer – while also carrying out voluntary work in his local community from time-to-time.
Heinz brings a wealth of experience to Tradeforus and will be primarily focused on the management, co-ordination and administration of beef producer groups.
Commenting on his appointment, Heinz said: “I believe that constantly striving to improve, willingness to always learn more, open-mindedness and adapting to new technologies are key elements to successful farm management.
“I believe the Tradeforus platform – and its capabilities - can really bring a solution for beef farmers when it comes to trading collectively. Technology is always evolving and this system is extremely efficient.”
