Sale Report: Quality in-calf Friesian heifers selling to highs of 1,700/head

Pictured above: This Feb-2020 born, in-calf FRX heifer - due to calve in February 2022 to Jersey AI - sold for €1,700.

As we approach December, and Christmas moves ever closer, we take a look back at just some of the prices achieved by dairy livestock over the past number of weeks. Dairy livestock has proved in demand - despite a small dampener on the trade a little over a month ago.

Since then, Tradeforus Livestock Officers have been busy dealing with a constant demand for high-EBI, AI-bred in-calf heifers. There has also been a significant demand for empty cows in milk that are scanned suitable for breeding - with prices paid for these animals well up on 2020 levels.

With strong milk prices, some dairy farmers are keen to milk on later in the year making the most of these higher returns, while most spring-calving herds are making the best of the favourable grazing conditions and currently drying off cows in preparation for the 2022 season.

Here's just a flavour of some of the stock and prices achieved in recent weeks. As always, if you have dairy livestock to sell - or you're in the market for additions to your herd - get in touch today and we'll get you sorted.
